WHY I WRoTE THE ROOM WITH THE RAINBOW DOOR

Throughout my years of teaching, I found that most children’s books that discussed neurodiversity and disabilities only discussed one disability or did so through an animal.

I wanted to de-stigmatize differences by creating a children’s book that depicted the wide range of neuro-types, disabilities, + atypical behaviors and introduced them to children in a realistic and relevant way.

“The Room with the Rainbow Door” features illustrations and topics designed to facilitate easy discussions with children about:

  • Autism
  • Down syndrome
  • Speech Delay
  • Hard of hearing
  • Vision (CVI)
  • Toe Walking
  • Stiminng (physical and vocal)
  • Sensory Processing
  • AAC
  • Trach tube
  • Limb Difference
  • Port wine stain
  • Wearing AFOs
  • Wearing a bib
  • Wearing a diaper
  • Using a wheelchair
  • Using a chewy
  • Using noise-canceling headphones
